Vermont does not have any state travel restrictions for state residents or for people coming to Vermont from other states. There are federal rules that apply in Vermont. These include:

PREPARING TO TRAVEL
CDC recommends delaying travel until you are fully vaccinated because travel increases your chance of getting and spreading COVID-19. Be sure to carry your COVID-19 vaccination card with you in case a business or venue asks to see it. See how to get a copy of your vaccine record and how to get a new vaccine card.

Travelers are responsible for knowing any requirements for testing and documentation by checking with their airline, airport and destinations. Test results from the Health Department may take up to 3 business days, so plan ahead. Private labs and pharmacies may be able to provide specific documentation and services beyond the work of the Health Department. The Health Department may not be able to help you with special requests outside of normal business hours, weekends or holidays.

If you travel to places with a lot of virus circulating or spend time with people who do, consider getting tested and following prevention steps, even if you are vaccinated. Travelers should follow the guidelines of the state or country they visit. These rules may be different state by state or country by country.

Read the Health Department recommendations for protecting yourself and others from COVID-19.

INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL
Travel to and from Canada
Check CDC’s travel notices for Canada. Read Canada’s entry restrictions. The LAMP or PCR tests offered at most Health Department testing sites may meet the COVID-19 test requirement for entry to Canada. Fully vaccinated travelers entering Canada will not have to show proof of a negative COVID-19 test as of April 1.

Find COVID-19 travel information from the U.S. Embassy in Canada.
Health Department testing is free for anyone in Vermont, including Canadians and other international travelers. Find out more about testing
Follow the CDC’s after travel guidance when you return to the U.S.

Other International Travel
U.S. citizens and citizens of other countries need to follow the CDC guidance on testing and international travel.
If you are planning on traveling internationally, check the current list of Travel Advisories by country from the U.S. Department of State, and visit travel.state.gov for detailed information on safe international travel.

Visit the CDC’s travel page for travel recommendations by country(link is external) and see the FAQs for Travelers.
You must follow travel restrictions and quarantine requirements for the countries you plan to visit.

The CDC recommends that people who are not fully vaccinated or at increased risk of severe illness avoid travel on cruise ships, including river cruises, worldwide if they are not vaccinated. The risk of COVID-19 on cruise ships is high. Learn more about cruise ships and river cruise voyages.

Follow the CDC’s after travel guidance when you return to the U.S.
